It seems that I Clivi’s popularity continues to grow after each vintage. Blessed with calcareous clay soils similar to Burgundy’s Cote d’Or, winemaker Ferdinando Zanusso works with some of Friuli’s most esteemed terroir. A true steward of the land, yields are kept low on the vines that range from 60-80 years old, allowing for the wines to tell the story of each vintage. The 2019 San Pietro Friulano has a lot to say. Typically, the aromatics play a supporting role to this wine’s breathtaking minerality, this is not the case with 2019. With aromas of Pomelo, lime zest, lemongrass, jasmine and honeysuckle, the nose is not shy. The acidity is pronounced as ever, teasing its away around this wine’s natural mineral-forward character and continuing to its mouthwatering finish with slight grapefruit pith and floral touches over almonds. This is, quite possibly, the most well-rounded vintage of the San Pietro Friulano to date.
