Notes from Golden Cluster:

Many of my colleagues are constantly emulating the fancy parts of Burgundy. Certainly, this could be one potential path to understanding what Oregon Chardonnay is or can be. But, for me we are very early in the “can be” stage. This stage demands experimentation, creativity, and fearlessness. It led me to the creation of a place called: Noburg, Oregon.

I love the many examples of Chardonnay made in Burgundy. While Mersault and Chassagne get a lot of the attention and $$$, I’ve always been a sucker for the Chardonnay from the Macon. There is an unmistakable tension in these wines that always captures me. Admittedly, I do like a whiff of reduction in my Chardonnay. That kiss of flint really accentuates the mineral nature of this style of Chardonnay. Made from the rare clone 548, our Chardonnay has high levels of natural acidy and a killer tannic backbone that is a hallmark of this clone. Fermented and aged in neutral French oak for 11 months, this wine was bottled unfined (Vegan) and Unfiltered. This wine was aged another 11 months in bottle before release. Sediment may occur. No heat or cold stablization.
