Located in the heart of Barbaresco, Gianluigi Lano’s family have been farming and selling their grapes to surrounding estates for generations. In the early 90’s however, Lano began bottling these organic and carefully tended vineyards under their own label, and we are forever grateful that they did. Working with vines nearly 55 years of age, his wines are truly terroir-driven, with a quality that far excels past its price point. Aromas of blackberries, stewed strawberries, and violets linger over food friendly notes of olives, balsamic green peppercorns, and pencil shavings. The acidity is pushed by the Barbera that comprises most of this blend. A concentrated yet juicy medium body descends towards minimal, yet firm dusty tannins that leave behind peppery, herbal, and spicy notes on the finish. Highly enjoyable on its own while displaying a structure that lends itself for multiple food pairing possibilities.
