Frank Cornelissen produces wines guided by a philosophy that allows nature to take the lead and dictate the vineyard interactions. The aim for these wines has always been about transparency, with yields kept low and minimal intervention in the cellar. Cornelissen as a winemaker seems to have evolved with experience as well. His earlier examples of this Munjebel were far more rustic and had a tactile edge with longer periods of skin contact. These wines now are more finessed with shorter maceration periods that continue maintaining Cornelissen’s signature transparency with a newfound approach. Dried apricots, persimmon, citrus peel, hay and jasmine radiate from the glass over hints of wild herbs and honeysuckle. The fresh acid profile stretches across the mineral-forward juicy texture before a minimal tannin presence introduce a floral, slightly honeyed, and salty finish. A wonderful balance of rusticity and precision.
