Established in 1929, Francis Orban was one of the first grower Champagne in the village of Leuvrigny where the estate is found. Orbin works almost exclusively with older vine Pinot Meunier, a varietal that thrives in the clay rich soils of the Vallée de la Marne. Bottled with a minimal dosage, these wines highlight Pinot Meunier’s bright fruit tones and rounded vinous profile. Underneath its playful disposition lies a complexity that the addition of 50% reserve wine brings to this cuvée. Cheerful aromas of red plum, cherry compote, meyer lemon, baked apples, and brioche hover over background notes of wet rocks and white pepper. Energetic acidity balances a deceptively rich vinous profile which push along compact and refined bubbles to a nearly bone dry, fruity and peppery finish. Enjoyable on its own, yet well-structured as an accompaniment to variety of aperitif platters, especially charcuterie.
