The Rinaldi name carries with it an air of expertise and gravitas in the entire Piemonte region. Founded in the mid-19th century, this estate has a well-earned reputation for producing wines of profundity and elegance. Cannubi is arguably considered one of the greatest crus in the Barolo commune and represents one of the two flagship single cru bottlings at this estate. Rich in its complexity of soil composition produce an equally complex wine. This 2018 is much more aromatic than their ‘Brunate’ bottling with alluring aromas of black cherries, blackberry compote, currants, licorice, crushed roses, and pipe tobacco. The acid thrives through a plush, juicy-silky texture and drives towards a firm, velvety tannin structure that leaves an earthy trail of truffles, dried herbs, and cinder on the finish. A bit austere now, though an hour of aeration may change its attitude. Drinking well right now, transcendent if you wait a while.
