Notes from La Luz Selections:
"When Rias Baixas’ winemaking natives Eulogio Pomares and wife Rebeca Montero succumb to thirst and wanderlust they take flight and migrate east from the rugged Atlantic coast of Ríâs Baixas into the deeply plunging, fertile valleys of Ribeira Sacra.
With passion for Piedmont and Nebbiolo as his muse, Eulogio imported pristine Italian oak Foudres (Gamba and Garbellotto) to his stoney roadside winery in Pantón and blended them with old concrete vessels to coax finesse and structure out of the schisty slate laced Mencía grape. For the micro amounts of Godello mined, he leans on lees to balance the citrus driven acids and to enhance the inherently golden delicious Godello mouthfeel. And, that smoky quince will drive you wild.
Along the dramatic windy River route of the Miño and Sils that wind throughout the steeply sloped vineyards of DO Ribeira Sacra are teeny plots of the Godello and Mencía grapes. Estranxeiro Tinto is comprised fruit from both sides of the river - the cooler fruit coming from A Cova in Ribeiras del Miño (20-80 years old vines) and sunnier, warmer fruit coming from Amandi (50 years old vines) alongside the Sil River.
