‘Les Moulins’ is the perfect snapshot of not only the domaine’s style, but also to Saumur’s reds in general. The vine age ranges from 7-80 years of age and are sourced from the communes of Montreuil-Bellay and Brézé. This is a highly aromatic Cabernet Franc with harmonious notes of mixed red and black berries, iron, violets, pottery soil and green peppercorns. The palate is lively, displaying a silky texture and lean, minerally dense mid palate before descending on a mild tannic bite that finishes with peppery, fruity and slightly smoky tones. Best enjoyed young.
In only a few years, Domaine Guiberteau has become one of the most sought after domaines in Saumur. In 1996, Romain Guiberteau decided to take over the management of his family’s vineyards rather than see the leases renewed. The following year, under the mentoring of Clos Rougeard’s Nady Foucault, Romain quickly sold through his 1st vintage. The success convinced him to pursue a qualitative approach to winemaking and to gradually take back his grapes from the cooperative.
