"As the prices for Burgundy continue to rise due to growing demand and yields lost due to chaotic weather (I'm looking at you 2021), finding quality wines that won't break the bank is no easy task. One such example came our way this week and we are excited to share it with you. This is not a shy bottle. Aromas of red cherries, black raspberries, iodine, maitakes, toasted hazelnuts, baking spices and cinder leap from the glass. The palate is juicy, teetering on a silky feel with a textbook Burgundian mineral core that gently finds its way towards velvety tannins. The finish is lengthy and displays exit notes of sappy red fruits, incense, and violets. Already highly enjoyable in this youthful state, but with enough intrigue to inspire medium term cellaring."
About The Producer:
Domaine Morot's origins in Beaune date back to 1820 and it continues to be a family operated winery today. Nearly all of their production is centered around Premier Cru sites within the Côte de Beaune, with its most impressive holdings found in the Beaune appellation itself. Winemaker Geoffroy Choppin de Janvry has been at the helm since 2000 and after a number of succesful trials that began in 2009, the estate has been certified organic since the 2015 vintage. It's evident from this wine that we are greatly benefitting from the domaine's drive to continually improve. This is an estate that we will be monitoring closely.
