Located on the slopes of the extinct volcano, Mt. Vulture, D’Angelo had long made bulk wine when in 1950 they switched entirely to bottled production. Now in their fourth generation, siblings Erminia and Rocco utilize 25 hectares of Aglianico vineyards, planted in volcanic soil at 1500 ft. elevation, aged 25-80 years. Well concentrated aromas of black raspberry, pomegranate, violet and freshly turned earth carry the nose. It's medium-bodied with zesty berry flavors wrapped in mildly gritty tannins.
