Notes from the Producer:
"In 1701 Vincenzo Scilanga was born in Cirò, who gave rise to a family of winemakers who still today their descendants hand down the history and tradition. Today Vincenzo and Francesco Scilanga decide to assert their origins and their culture handed down by their father Quintino, materializing the love for their work and their land with a single goal, to produce natural wines, with indigenous yeasts, low use of sulfur thus reflecting the unique distinctive characteristics that Gaglioppo presents. The ancient Greeks trained the sapling vines, with a planting pattern of 1m x 1m and this form of training is still present in the Cirò vineyards even if in small part and with slightly wider rows. The vineyard area of Cirò is made up of 80% Gaglioppo and 20% Greco Bianco, both native varieties. Once there were many others, today in recovery, including: Magliocco canino, Lacrima, Prunesta, Santa Severina, Colorino and others.
The cellar was built in line with the new winemaking technologies with temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, immersed in an astonishing and uncontaminated landscape, far from the chaos and frenetic life of the city, where the gaze is lost for kilometers in the vineyards and a splendid Ionian Sea frames an enchanting landscape. "Cultivating the vine with love brings greater satisfactions" starting from this motto and animated by the desire to enhance an ancient tradition we have today decided to move towards a present full of activities and full of new challenges without ever neglecting the attention towards peculiarities of the area. Proposing our wine to the market means communicating to others who we are and an ancient culture that travels through perfumes, sensations and memories."
