Winemaker Diane Cauvin and her husband run Château La Colombière after inheriting the estate from her father in the mid 2000’s. While at the helm, the immediate focus was on rehabilitating the vineyards which have since been converted to biodynamic viticulture. They work almost exclusively with old vine Négrette over a diverse array of soils compositions in Fronton. With terroir as the guiding principle, they are crafting some beautifully transparent examples of this indigenous varietal. The bouquet has fresh aromas of blackberries, blueberry compote, violets, green peppercorns, iron and garrigue. Surprisingly fresh acidity carries a juicy, lean body that descends on mildly dusty tannins with an earthy, peppery finish. This Négrette has tons of character.
