The Cantina Produttori Nebbiolo di Carema is a highly successful co-cop founded in 1960 that today includes just over 70 growers. This tiny appellation is tucked away in the northwest corner of Piemonte and marks the divide between Piemonte and the mountainous Valle d’Aosta region. Its terroir vastly differs from that of Barolo and Barbaresco, but what this shade of Nebbiolo lacks in power and density, it makes up for in aromatics and finesse. Classic Nebbiolo notes of cherry, crushed roses and leather are more intertwined with earthy tones of forest floor, eucalyptus, pine needles and tar. The acidity is fresh, with a mouthwatering quality that persists through a smooth silky texture. The mineral-rich medium body seamlessly morphs into smooth velvet tannins, before finishing with mountainous notes of pine resin, wet leaves, and crushed stones with hints of smoke and black pepper. The Cantina are nearly the only game in Carema as there are currently, only 2 other producers in the region bottling these hidden gems.
