This wine boldly represents the grape and place that created it, but it too shows incredible balance and elegance. Ashes & Diamonds is a winery and vineyard in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley that works with 2 great winemakers: Steve Mathiasson, of his eponymous label, and Diana Snowden Seysses of Snowden wines in California and Domaine Dujac in Burgundy. The Red Hen Vineyard is a biodynamically farmed site owned by Bart and Daphne Araujo – 2 longtime great Napa Growers. This combination is like the Travelling Wilburys of Cali wine… you can’t get more dad than that. The property sits in the Oak Knoll District, located in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains. With well-draining gravel and cobblestones suspended in alluvial silt and clay, the soil here acts like a sponge, naturally pulling rainwater down from the mountains and requiring little to no irrigation. It also encourages fine tannins and finesse in the resulting wines. Red Hen’s Cabernets have a quiet power, poise and impressive length with silky, weightless tannins.
Fermented in stainless steel tanks, aged for 19 months in French oak barrels (32% new).
